Calgary's ChamberFest West, to 'resonate' throughout the city again yyc yycmusic
“We do a range of music, from Renaissance to music written yesterday,” Cohen says. “Any of that can be chamber music as long as there is no conductor. The musicians we bring in are so compelling and each of them has such a unique voice. Many of them are multi-faceted; some are artists, some are composers as well as being just amazing players.
Other performances will take place in the atrium in the Bow Tower in downtown Calgary, Studio Bell at the National Music Centre and the Jack Singer Concert Hall Stage. ChamberFest West was inspired by ChamberFest Cleveland, which Cohen and her father Franklin, who is principal clarinetist of the Cleveland Orchestra, founded in 2012. But the real seeds of the festival were planted in the summer of 2020, when Cohen and Rabinovich began holding weekly concerts in their front yard during the pandemic, attracting hundreds of people to their Crescent Heights home.
