Calgary experiences a notable cold snap with temperatures dipping below -15 C. An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for other parts of Alberta, but Calgary is expected to see some relief by early next week. Light snow is also anticipated to start falling late Friday.
Calgary reached a high of -15 C on Thursday, significantly cooler than the usual high of -3 C for this time of year. While the city isn't cold enough to trigger an Extreme Cold Warning, which is in effect for parts of central and northern Alberta , temperatures are expected to drop to -19 C overnight, feeling like -29 C with wind chill. This cold spell is expected to last for a few more days, with a pattern change anticipated by early next week.
Along with the cold, light snow or flurries are also on the horizon as wet weather from the US West Coast moves into southern Alberta late Friday and into Saturday. Calgary can anticipate 2 to 4 centimeters of light snow starting around 8 p.m. Friday. After the weekend, warmer weather returns with a high-pressure system moving into the province on Tuesday, raising temperatures above freezing by mid-week
