JOHN'S, N.L. — Bruce Chaulk finished his six-year term as chief electoral officer and commissioner for legislative standards on Sunday, Dec. 11.
A news release issued by the executive council on Monday, Dec. 12, announced that the two people who were appointed to take on Chaulk's duties while he had been briefly suspended will be appointed again. The controversy involving Chaulk and Citizens’ Representative Bradley Moss, which fuelled several reports and negative media headlines, prompted the provincial government earlier this month to announce a review of all the province's statutory offices.
Fowler will review the structure, reporting and accountability of the statutory offices of the House of Assembly — including the Commissioner for Legislative Standards, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate, the Office of the Citizens’ Representative, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, and the Office of the Seniors’ Advocate — and prepare a report that includes recommendations.
