Few details were available, but in a statement the government said it would suspend random testing at airports beginning Saturday and continuing until the end of the month.
Airports, especially Toronto’s Pearson International, have been swamped in recent weeks as Canadians return to travelling after a long pandemic. The increase in passengers has swamped customs and security screenings. Customs officers now have to check COVID vaccinations adding to the delays and meaning passengers take longer to process.
The National Post confirmed a report that first appeared in the Hill Times, that a majority of Liberal MPs are pressuring the government to end the travel mandates.
