The Chicago Blackhawks have sent veteran defenseman Seth Jones to the Florida Panthers in exchange for goaltender Spencer Knight and a conditional first-round draft pick. Jones, who has struggled with injuries this season, will be looking to revitalize his career in Florida. Knight, on the other hand, will have a chance to compete for the starting role in Chicago.

The Chicago Blackhawks have made a significant move by trading veteran defenseman Seth Jones to the Florida Panthers . In exchange, the Blackhawks acquire goaltender Spencer Knight and a conditional first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. This trade comes as Jones has struggled with injuries this season, appearing in only 42 games and contributing seven goals and 27 points. Jones, a 30-year-old right-shot defenseman, is in the third year of an eight-year, $76 million contract with a $9.

5 million annual cap hit. To facilitate the trade, Chicago will retain 26.3% of Jones' salary, lowering his cap hit to $7 million for Florida. The conditional first-round pick will belong to the Panthers in 2026. However, if Florida does not possess their own first-round pick in that year, Chicago will receive Florida's 2027 first-round selection. Jones was acquired by Chicago in 2021 from the Columbus Blue Jackets in a trade that sent Adam Boqvist and three draft picks to Columbus. Drafted fourth overall in 2013 by the Nashville Predators, Jones has amassed 97 goals and 432 points in 839 career games with Nashville, Columbus, and Chicago. His most productive season came in 2017-18 with the Blue Jackets, where he recorded 16 goals and 57 points, earning a spot on the NHL's Second All-Star Team. Knight, 23, has served as the backup goaltender for the Panthers this season, posting a 12-8-1 record with a 2.40 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage. Drafted 13th overall by the Panthers in 2019, Knight boasts a 44-25-7 career record with a 2.76 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. He has represented the United States twice at the World Junior Championships, winning a gold medal in 2021 and a silver medal in 2019
