Chicago Blackhawks' defenseman Seth Jones discusses the possibility of a trade as the team prepares for another rebuilding season.
The Chicago Blackhawks are facing another rebuilding season and are anticipated to be sellers at the NHL trade deadline . Forward Ryan Donato has garnered significant trade interest following a breakout year. However, defenseman Seth Jones is also a name to watch as the March 7 deadline approaches. Jones, ranked No. 7 on Wednesday, addressed the possibility of a trade.
He stated that he hasn't formally requested a trade, but has discussed the possibility with his agent, Pat Brisson, and general manager Kyle Davidson. 'If it happens, it happens. Obviously, while I’m here with the Blackhawks, they have my full effort and full attention to this team to try to get this team better,' Jones commented.Jones is committed to the Blackhawks for five more seasons with a cap hit of $9.5 million. His contract includes a full no-movement clause, allowing him to control any potential trade destination. The Arlington, Texas native expressed a desire to compete for a championship, while acknowledging the complexity of moving his contract. The veteran averages over 24 minutes of ice time per game and could be a valuable asset for any team willing to manage the financial implications. Jones has recorded six goals and 26 points in 38 games this season and is on track for his best offensive year since 2021-22, despite missing significant time due to an ankle injury.Jones was originally acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets, along with Tampa Bay's 2021 first-round pick (No. 32 - Nolan Allen) and a 2022 sixth-round pick, in exchange for defenseman Adam Boqvist. The transaction included Chicago's 2021 first-round pick (No. 12 - Cole Sillinger), a 2021 second-round pick (No. 44 - Traded to Carolina), and the Blackhawks' 2022 first-rounder (David Jiricek).
