SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for November 3, 2023 | SaltWirePORT MORIEN — A bill tabled in the Nova Scotia Legislature this week to bring awareness such as labelling similar to tobacco and cigarette packaging for ammunition and tackle containing lead was inspired by Cape Breton environmentalists.
Northside-Westmount Liberal MHA Fred Tilley tabled the private member Bill 395, An Act to Raise Awareness of the Harmful Impacts of Lead and Enhance Public Safety, Wednesday. For hunters and anglers, it would give them a chance at a second option if there was clear labelling, Tilley said. And it gets even trickier as a lot of the product is kept behind glass showcases so it’s more cumbersome for the consumer to mull over their choices. Warning labels would help make that clear.McNeil said there is a bit of a cost difference but many are willing to absorb it.
