Trump has been attacking his trial as “rigged.”
On May 31, President Biden praised the jury and justice system a day after former president Donald Trump was found guilty of falsifying business records. President Biden spoke in defense of the American justice system Friday, blasting former president Donald Trump for attacking the case that resulted in a guilty verdict a day earlier on 34 felony charges involving the falsification of business records.
“It’s reckless, it’s dangerous, and it’s irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don’t like the verdict,” Biden said from the White House, in his first remarks since Trump was convicted by a Manhattan jury. “The justice system should be respected, and we should never allow anyone to tear it down.”
Earlier Friday, Trump had railed again against the case against him, attacking the judge, prosecutors and witnesses in the trial. He asserted without evidence that Biden was behind the prosecution — which was led by a state-level district attorney — and claimed that “we’re living in a fascist state.” A day earlier, Trump had complained that the trial was “rigged” and a “disgrace.”
