After Russia’s ministry of defense announced a cease-fire starting at 2 a.m. E.T. Saturday, Ukrainian officials confirmed the news. Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, Iryna Vereschuk, also accused Russian forces of “shelling Volnovakha with heavy weapons” in a video posted to Telegram. She added that there was ongoing fighting on the route between Mariupol and Zaporizhzhia.Her comments came ahead of a planned video conference briefing by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to U.S. senators on Saturday, as Congress considers a request for $10 billion in emergency funding for humanitarian aid and security needs.
