Russia's Defense Ministry said that move would allow people to leave Mariupol and Volnovakha.

Russia has declared a cease-fire in two areas of Ukraine to create humanitarian corridors aimed at allowing civilians to evacuate, according to state media reports.

The move was reported by state-owned news agency Tass and confirmed by the Ukrainian head of the Donetsk region military administration, Pavlo Kirilenko, according to theThe Russian Defense Ministry said the corridors would allow people to leave the strategic port of Mariupol in the southeast of the country and the eastern town of Volnovakha.

The cease-fire started on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. local time and the evacuation which is expected to start at 11:00 a.m. the BBC reported. Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko said:"Under the conditions of constant, ruthless shelling from the occupiers, there is no other choice but to give residents... the opportunity to safely leave."
