A look at Thursday morning’s market action
Global markets were mixed as investors saw U.S. price data adding to bets on a Federal Reserve rate cut next month, though the future monetary policy outlook was clouded by Donald Trump’s return to the White House.
Overseas, the pan-European STOXX 600 was up 0.5 per cent in morning trading. Britain’s FTSE 100 rose 0.11 per cent, Germany’s DAX gained 1.05 per cent and France’s CAC 40 advanced 0.76 per cent.Commodities Brent crude futures fell 0.6 per cent to US$71.83 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate crude futures declined 0.7 per cent to US$67.95.
In other commodities, spot gold dropped 1 per cent to US$2,545.90. U.S. gold futures fell about 1 per cent to US$2,560.90.The day range on the loonie was 71.31 US cents to 71.50 US cents in the early premarket period. The Canadian dollar was down about 1.5 per cent against the greenback over the past month.
