A look at Thursday morning’s market action
Global markets were mostly higher ahead of the European Cent ral Bank’s monetary policy decision, which could see the ECB make its first back-to-back interest rate cut in 13 years.
“The ECB is expected to lower its rates by another 25 as the headline Eurozone inflation eased below the bank’s 2-per-cent target in September and the Eurozone economies are struggling to keep their head above water,” Ipek Ozkardeskaya, senior analyst at Swissquote Bank, wrote in a note. Overseas, the pan-European STOXX 600 was up 0.53 per cent in morning trading. Britain’s FTSE 100 advanced 0.18 per cent, Germany’s DAX gained 0.81 per cent and France’s CAC 40 rose 1.2 per cent.
Brent crude futures were up 25 US cents to US$74.47 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude futures were at US$70.64 a barrel, also up 25 US cents.
