to call out plays during Friday’s game at Beachwood High School.
The statement further read, “We commend the leadership of Beachwood’s schools, including Head Coach Scott Fischer and Athletic Director Ryan Peters, for taking prompt action to protect our students. City Council Vice President Eric Synenberg said the episode has been “a big punch to the gut to the entire Beachwood community.”
Synenberg said there has been talk of the two teams getting together after the season to do “some socialization or sitting down for a meal and having Beachwood kids explain to them why this is so harmful, and hopefully the Brooklyn kids will really get it by then and apologize.”Regional Director Kelly Fishman said she has been in contact with Brooklyn Schools Superintendent Theodore Caleris about the incident and that positive steps are being taken.
“I think that’s what we want to see,” Fishman said. “Dr. Coleris has talked about what happened, has issued an apology. I think this is one of the best steps, helping his students and the community learn and grow from this, because we interact with different people our whole lives and this is a great opportunity he is granting to his school community to learn and grow from this.
