Bad Father's Day for B.C. Ferries: Staff shortage prompts multiple cancellations

By far the most impactful on customers was the sudden announcement that a staffing shortage had forced the cancellation of the 4 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay and return runs on the Queen of New Westminster.

Earlier in the day, staffing issues meant there was no gift shop service on the Horseshoe Bay to Langdale run, while staffing problems that were set to cancel the Horseshoe Bay to Snug Cove run were resolved at the last minute. Eric McNeely, president of the B.C. Ferry and Marine Workers’ Union, said the staffing shortage was linked to the mandatory 10-day period that someone who has contracted COVID-19 must spend away from the vessels.
