Dads come in all shapes and sizes. They are executives and construction workers, stay\u002Dat\u002Dhomes and surgeons, officers and policy advisers.
And then you have dads with really unusual jobs – like these three. They live and breathe a circus life.Facundo Gimenez, Alan Perry and Nate Lerohl have all run away and joined the circus – and have taken their families along too. Their work requires moving often, every few months, and that means packing up kids, toys, and memories – and making new ones all over again.Gimenez relishes that it’s “new beginnings” each time they move. Gimenez is a clown and dad to toddler Aria.
And just like in Kurios, where wonders abound, imaginations rule and the world is sometimes turned upside down, so is the circus life with your family, all agree. Aria is learning to be confident, friendly and adaptable – “it’s how I grew up and it’s a very good life school.”Stage manager Alan Parry figures he’ll be up for “some cool dad points,” considering he runs a circus and gets to work in lots of cool places. Dad to one toddler, Ashton, Parry manages the entire Kurios show, an intricate, yet mammoth production.
“I kind of think of myself as the conductor of an orchestra – organizing all of the elements so the show runs smoothly… It really keeps you on your toes.” “It’s an education, a school of life,” says Parry, “and an experience that can’t be replicated. It’s such a unique environment, a unique community.” Touring members become your surrogate family, your support system, he adds.
