British Columbia's health minister, Josie Osborne, announced 26 new substance-use beds across the province on January 20, 2025. These beds will be located in various communities, including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, and Prince Rupert, and will provide support for women, pregnant women, mothers, and men.

and will offer beds for women “who have completed treatment to get longer-term support with their recovery and rebuilding a healthy life in a homelike setting.” These are all offered in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association – BC Division , which now has 248 treatment beds funded through the province.
“Each new expansion represents our commitment to person-centred and evidence-based care that meets people where they are in their recovery journey.”
