BRACKLEY BEACH, P.E.I. — People assembled at Brackley Beach in Prince Edward Island National Park to view the aurora borealis on May 10.
The visitors were able to view the colours with their naked eyes as well as through cameras on their devices beginning after 11 p.m. and continuing into the early morning hours of May 11. The bright pink is from electrons striking nitrogen, while green is caused by a collision with oxygen, according to the Canadian Space Agency.
While the northern lights can be visible in the night sky close to the North Pole any night between August and May, it is rare for the colours to appear so vividly in P.E.I.
