Atiba Hutchinson has joined the ownership group of Simcoe County Rovers FC, a new semi-professional League1 Ontario club with pro aspirations.
berth, he was a soccer-loving kid in Brampton with no local professional team to cheer for.
Simcoe County was confirmed as a League1 Ontario expansion club last October, after acquiring the licence previously held by Aurora FC. The women’s and men’s teams will open with a home doubleheader on April 24 at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie. Youth affiliations with Athlete Institute, Barrie Soccer Club and Aurora FC will eventually stock first-team reserve squads.
“These stories cannot continue to happen,” de Guzman said. “You want to make it a safe environment for these kids to flourish and do well, have the proper coaching, have clarity and transparency that this is what it takes to get pro and these are the steps.”
