The so\u002Dcalled Five Corners fire on May 15, 2016, was one of several suspected arsons and property crimes that day around White Rock.

A multi-unit residential building under construction on Royal Avenue went up in flames, engulfing an occupied apartment building beside it on Pacific Avenue, at what is known as Five Corners in White Rock.

“This arson resulted in a serious risk to life, displaced approximately 100 people from their homes, disrupted local businesses, caused millions of dollars in damage, and affected the city’s water quality and supply due to the fire suppression efforts,” said Sears. The complex investigation involved about 120 police and witnesses who each “held a small piece of the puzzle or contributed to the investigation over the last five years, the assistance of over a dozen RCMP detachments and units,” said RCMP Staff Sgt.
