Tuesday morning aquafit at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre dives a little deeper than your average swim class.
It looks like a typical morning at the pool, but Tuesday morning aquafit at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre dives a little deeper than your average class. Aquafit instructor, Glenda Rosberg loves what she does. “It’s probably the best job I’ve ever had,” she says from the pool deck.
On Tuesdays, the music gets cranked even louder for a group of swimmers in the adjacent therapy pool. A couple of years ago a group of students with developmental disabilities from Royal Bay Secondary started coming to the pool for swimming sessions. It gave the students an opportunity to be loud, splash around and have fun. Over time, they began to notice Rosberg moving to the music on the pool deck, and she noticed them right back.
The women in the aquafit group, can’t get enough. Jeanette and Layla never miss a Tuesday. “We come for this specifically,” says Jeanette. “We don’t miss Tuesdays because of the kids.” “It’s just so wonderful to see them interacting with her,” she says of the students and Rosberg. “They just light up!”
