Hikers are being warned that some areas of Juan de Fuca Provincial Park have been closed due to recent storms in the region.
The park, which hosts the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail – a 47-kilometre rugged trail stretching from Jordan River to Port Renfrew – was damagedand flooding, according to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy.
As of Friday, closed areas include the Sombrio Beach suspension bridge, Parkinson Trailhead, and some of the Juan de Fuca trail and backcountry campsites. However, some areas of the park remain open, including East Sombrio Beach and the Sombrio Beach parking lot, Botanical Beach, the Botanical Beach parking lot, and Botany Bay. China Beach and Second Beach also remain open, though only for day use.
“To ensure people are safe and to minimize damage to park infrastructure, affected areas will remain closed until further inspections are conducted,” said the ministry in a release Friday. “Further inspections will determine the extent of the damage and the next steps and timelines for repairs and reopening.”Anyone who is hoping to visit Juan de Fuca park is encouraged to check the
