Because all of those communities are in the Northern hemisphere, we saw the dark nights get longer and some of those nights were three or four weeks long. But there were usually bright lights of all the different colours and people greeting each other in the stores and in the streets with smiles even if their scarves were pulled up over their chins.
There were Christmases up North and a Christmas in Portugal Cove, N.L. My husband had a great time putting ashy footprints away from the fireplace that year. And the kids made the most revolting sandwich of sardines and peanut butter, I think. He actually took a bite. We were invited to a party where Mummers showed up that year. King George and some others I didn’t recognize. That was fun.And last, but not least, I would like to send my gratitude out to all my relatives and friends.
