The average age of Ryans, 38, and his three coordinators — Burke is 46, and Slowik and Ross are 35 — is only slightly older than the average age of 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan’s initial collection of coordinators in 2017 . Shanahan, a former Texans assistant coach and offensive coordinator, hired former Texans staffers Mike McDaniel , Robert Saleh and Richard Hightower to stabilize a 49ers coaching staff that had also fired one-and-done coaches in consecutive seasons.
McDaniel benefited from Shanahan’s tutelage. Shanahan, the son of two-time Super Bowl champion Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, expanded on his father’s brand of West Coast offense and called the offensive plays throughout the entirety of McDaniel’s time in San Francisco. It’s possible Ryans and Burke share a similar relationship.
