The 65th All Native Basketball Tournament concluded on February 14th with exciting championship games across all five divisions. Defending champions and newcomers alike battled for victory, setting the stage for a memorable final day of competition.
The 2025 All Native Basketball Tournament reached its exciting climax on Day 7 (February 14th) with the championship matchups decided across all five divisions. In the newly introduced Women's Masters Division, the Kaien Island Sirens from Prince Rupert secured their place in the final after a commanding 69-15 victory against Gitwinksihlkw. This set up a final showdown with Hazelton, who defeated Gitwinksihlkw in the loser's bracket semi-final with a score of 67-48.
The first championship game of the 65th tournament will be played between the Sirens and Hazelton at 11 a.m. today (February 15th).The second final of the day will see Vancouver All My Relations face off against the defending champions, Similkameen Starbirds, in the Women's Division at 12:30 p.m. The Starbirds dominated their path to the championship game, effortlessly sweeping through the winner's bracket. Vancouver, on the other hand, faced a tougher journey, dropping to the loser's side early on and needing to overcome Prince Rupert, Greenville, and Hazelton to earn their spot against the Starbirds. The Masters Division will witness a rematch of last year's final, with the Prince Rupert Trojans taking on Hydaburg, AK. Hydaburg lived up to their expectations after their dominant performance in the division in 2024. Prince Rupert's only loss was to the Alaskans, and they will be aiming to claim victory against the American team when they meet on the court at 2 p.m. In the Intermediate division, the defending champions, Metlakatla, AK, will be looking to repeat their success against Bella Bella. Unlike the Metlakatlans, Bella Bella had a challenging route to the final, navigating through Bella Coola, Prince Rupert, Lax Kw'alaams, and Skidegate to secure their place. This game will be played at 6:30 p.m. The Senior Men's division will also feature a repeat of the 2024 final, with the defending champion Burnaby Chiefs facing off against perennial favourites, the Skidegate Saints. Skidegate easily advanced through the winner's bracket, including a comfortable victory over Burnaby with a score of 81-72. However, the Chiefs remain a formidable opponent, as demonstrated in their semi-final against Kitkatla, where they staged a remarkable comeback from a nearly 20-point deficit in the first quarter to win by almost 30. The Saints and Chiefs will tip off at 8 p.m. All championship games will be played in the Russell Gamble Gymnasium at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre in Prince Rupert on February 15th
