The Alberta government is to receive $54 million in federal funding to develop and deploy a 10-year plan to end gender-based violence in Alberta.

Alberta Status of Women Minister Tanya Fir said Thursday the province is ranked fifth in the number of reports of intimate partner violence in Canada and fourth in reported sexual assaults.

“If we don't discuss it and face it head-on, it will continue and that is simply unacceptable. Those who have survived it and those who are experiencing it deserve support.” “I'm incredibly proud of the work of these organizations and we will always be there to keep their doors open to anyone fleeing violence.”
