India requested ceasefire after facing decisive retaliation, DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI Pakistan’s military has firmly stated that the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India was initiated at New Delhi’s request, not Islamabad’s. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry clarified that following India’s unprovoked attacks, it was Pakistan’s right to respond, which it did with precision and force through Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.

He revealed that Pakistan only responded to the ceasefire proposal after delivering a decisive and calibrated military response. “On the night of May 6 and 7, after those cowardly attacks, India requested de-escalation. Pakistan replied clearly: we will respond first, then talk,” he said. The military spokesperson noted that it was only on May 10, following successful retaliatory strikes by Pakistan’s Armed Forces, that Islamabad formally acknowledged the earlier Indian request, after international interlocutors got involved. India’s Ministry of Defence, he said, had publicly called for de-escalation, a clear indication of who sought the truce.
