Justice Yahya says he has briefed visitors about judicial reforms, National Judicial Policy: Everything can’t be confided to them: Says judges not used to hold such meetings: Informs has forwarded Imran Khan’s letter to judges committee: Says differences among some SC judges not newChief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi said on Tuesday that he had told the International Monetary Fund’s delegation that he was not bound to disclose all details they were seeking, reported 24 News HD TV channel.
Talking to newsmen at the Supreme Court building, he said he would also talk about the letter penned down by former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan at a later stage. Justice Afridi said that the judges were not accustomed to talking directly to such delegations. He further said consultations were being held on the Finance Division’s request. The CJP said he had told the delegation that he had taken an oath for the independence of the judiciary under the constitution. “I also informed them about the agenda of the National Judicial Policy-making committee,” Justice Afridi said, adding, “I also told them that high courts monitored the working of lower courts.” When members of the delegation, he added, asked him about property rights, he told them that reforms were being introduced on this front. “I conveyed to them that they had come at the right time.” The CJP said he had also briefed the visitors about judicial reforms and the National Judicial Policy. “I urged them that what they were saying must be two-sided, and not one-sided,” Justice Afridi told newsmen. The delegation, he went on to say, told me that they wanted the protection of foreign investment in Pakistan. The CJP informed newsmen that he had communicated to the visitors that he had asked both the prime minister and the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly to come to the apex court so that they could give their agendas for judicial reforms. Responding to a question about Imran Khan’s letter, Justice Afridi said what the former prime minister wanted from the court concerned Clause III of Article 184. “I have forwarded the letter to the judges’ constitutional committee, which will decide its fate,” he said, adding, “At the end of the day, it is the constitutional bench which has to look into it.” When one of the reporters asked the CJP what steps he planned to take to sort out differences among the judges, the latter replied that the grievances of those who had written a letter to him were not new and that it would take time to address them. A time would come, he added, when the name of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb would come under consideration for the seat of Islamabad High Court chief justice. He went on to say he had urged the judges to let the system continue and not to interrupt it. “I asked them to let me bring more judges in the SC. I am in favour of elevating Justice Aurangzeb to the apex court because I want judges to hear the cases related to the corporate sector.”Posted 10:47 PM, 10 Feb, 2025Inflation picked up in China last month, official figures showed Sunday, as the Lunar New Year holiday boosted January spending.
