Photo: Coach This month’s Pride celebration marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots on June 28, a movement pioneered by two trans women of color: Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. Today, Coach released a video paying tribute to the historic event by highlighting LGBTQ+ people of color in the drag and ballroom communities.
The clip includes moments of protest in gay history, joyful voguing dancers, and notable figures like trans performer Charlene Incarnate and Gisele Xtravaganza, the ballroom mother of the House of Xtravaganza, reflecting on New York’s queer past, present, and hopes for the future.
