Monday morning’s earthquake comes about a month after two other earthquakes were felt on Vancouver Island.lightly felt by Islanders after it shook offshore between Nanaimo and VancouverJust a week before that, a 3.8 magnitude shaker was reported by thousands of people after it rumbled in the Haro Strait, about 11 kilometres southeast of Sidney.There were no reports of damage following either earthquake, and none would be expected, Environment Canada said at the time.
In August, the federal and B.C. governments announced that the province’s new earthquake early detection system had been activated, which could give people up to 10 seconds of warning ahead of a major earthquake.
