Burnaby RCMP arrested two women last month after a witness reported seeing people under a van in a parking lot at 4:30 a.m.
On Jan. 22, at 4:30 a.m., Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of two suspects underneath a van in a parking lot in the area of Brighton Avenue and Lougheed Highway near the University-Production away SkyTrain station according to a news release Wednesday.
By the time officers arrived, the suspects had fled the scene with the van’s catalytic converter, but the witness was able to relay a description of their vehicle, the release said. Police patrolled the area and located two suspects with several catalytic converters and tools in their possession. “While we have seen the number of catalytic converter thefts dropping in Burnaby, this incident is a reminder that these types of thefts are still happening in our community,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the release. “We would like to acknowledge the witness who saw suspicious activity and called police right away.”
The two suspects, a 38-year-old woman from Surrey and a 39-year-old woman from Abbotsford face multiple charges.
