There were 117 power outages affecting more than 33,000 B.C. Hydro customers on Vancouver Island on Monday morning.
About 100,000 BC Hydro customers on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, the Lower Mainland and the Sunshine Coast were without power on Monday morning after a "potent storm system" swept over B.C.'s south coast.All available crews and contractor crews are responding, repairing damaged power lines, poles and other equipment., B.C. Hydro said in a statement.
Most of the outages were attributed to the windstorm and trees down across power lines, though some were still under investigation.Weather warnings Greater Victoria, the Southern Gulf Islands and the western, eastern and inland areas of Vancouver Island are under Environment Canada weather alerts. Wind warnings have also been issued for much of the Island, including Greater Victoria and northern Vancouver Island.
