Porter Airlines is set to become a key partner at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (HIA) under a new agreement. This partnership, valued at $400 million, will see significant upgrades to the airport's facilities and the introduction of Porter's distinctive elevated economy air service to four major Canadian destinations.
TradePort International is partnering with Porter Airlines to bring a new level of air service to John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (HIA). This strategic partnership is part of a larger $400-million investment by TradePort, the airport's manager since 1996, to enhance passenger and cargo transportation at HIA over the next 49 years.
Initial improvements to the airport will focus on updating the exterior with new and expanded canopies to streamline curb operations, and refreshing the interior of the terminal from check-in counters and security areas to gate seating and baggage claim. The design will incorporate regional elements, complemented by new digital signage and lighting upgrades. Future enhancements include passenger jet bridges, a first for HIA, and infrastructure upgrades to accommodate anticipated air traffic growth. Construction is slated to begin in February, with many elements completed before Porter Airlines commences service in early June 2025. Porter will offer daily flights to four popular Canadian destinations: Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, and Vancouver. 'The Porter experience is something that travellers in Hamilton have never seen before,' said Michael Deluce, CEO of Porter Airlines. 'We see significant opportunity in this market to expand our network across North America and believe that the community can support these initial flights — which will position us to consider offering additional service from Hamilton.
