The company also explained that it may expand the fact-checking to topics beyond the pandemic. In response to Twitter’s action, Trump threatened on Wednesday to use the power of the federal government to regulate social media companies. “We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen,” Trump said, accusing social media companies of intentionally suppressing conservative opinions.Zuckerberg appeared wary of Trump’s warning and said he didn’t believe further censorship was the appropriate action.
“I have to understand what they actually would intend to do,” Zuckerberg told Fox News. “But in general, I think a government choosing to censor a platform because they’re worried about censorship doesn’t exactly strike me as the right reflex there.”
