Zelensky warns China backing Russia in Ukraine would mean World War III
in its year-long battle to subdue Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
“Because if China allies itself with Russia, there will be a world war, and I do think that China is aware of that,” he said. Chinese President Xi Jinping has steadfastly stood by Russian President Vladimir Putin, even as the west has sought to isolate him.On Monday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin took a tougher tack when he said the United States “is in no position to make demands of China.”
“Unfortunately, it may very well take countries like China pushing Russia for there to be any break in Putin’s resolve at this particular moment,” Brookings Institution senior fellow Fiona Hill testified.
