SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for October 30, 2023 | SaltWireOttawa police charged a youth with stealing a vehicle that was left idling in a Carling Avenue restaurant parking lot Friday with a 10-year-old child sleeping in the back seat.
According to police, the owner left the vehicle idling in the parking lot as they went inside to pick up their order.When the youth noticed the sleeping child in the back, they stopped the vehicle nearby and let the child out of the vehicle, unharmed, police said in a news release. A 16-year-old Gatineau youth was charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation and fleeing from police.
Police said officers “flooded the area” and issued a bulletin of “extreme urgency” after receiving a 911 call Friday around 6:30 p.m. from the 3000-block of Carling Avenue, near Michele Heights Park. The driver fled on foot, but was located and arrested “with the quick response of our K9 Unit,” police said.
