We all struggled a bit when Hearst bought the Express-News and closed the Light in 1993, quickly followed by some changing of the guard as many former Light employees joined the Express-News in many departments, including mine, classified advertising. Perhaps a more nonprejudicial foursome would be composed of former President Barack Obama, President Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

By founding the San Antonio Philharmonic to replace the badly managed San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, the musicians are showing there is a future in San Antonio for a well-managed orchestra. An orchestra that is not subjected to the ill will of some, but founded on positive thinking and a willingness to provide its services, not just for its patrons but also, and especially, by being an active participant in the education of our children.

My State Board Of Education District 3 representative suffered through a difficult end of August. Board member Marisa Perez-Diaz was unable to get her colleagues on the other side of the aisle to embrace experts’ input for updates to the social studies curriculum for Texas public schools.
