For years one of us treated a patient with heart disease for free because he lost his insurance when he lost his job. He was embarrassed that he couldn’t afford the visits and drugs that kept him alive until he finally qualified for Medicaid. But shouldn’t we be embarrassed? We will be thinking of his humiliation as we cast votes in the midterms, and we urge swing voters to remember him too. It’s not solely the grace of God that separates him from us - it’s our votes.
