Studies suggest you might want to rethink your favorite holiday treat this Easter, especially if it's made of dark chocolate. High levels of known carcinogen cadmium or probable carcinogen lead were found in 18 out of 28 chocolate bars tested.
Why is there lead and cadmium in chocolate?
That study found that lead gets into chocolate at various stages of cacao production, like when beans are removed from their pods. Cadmium is in the soil itself and levels can vary heavily.
