“I said, ‘I think I have achieved everything I want to do in this sport, and I think I am going to step away from it. I took about two months off, and then I said, ‘I really miss biathlon and I want to get back into it,’” said Liam Ellis.

P.E.I. team members are competing Feb. 22, 24 and 25. They will compete in sprint, pursuit, individual, single mixed relay and a mixed relay.Campbell’s ninth-place finish in Prince George is the highest-ever finish for a P.E.I. female biathlon athlete at the Canada Winter Games. Ellis inquired about any coaching possibilities and was invited to attend a practice. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.

In 2019, Campbell was selected for the Women and Coaching Apprenticeship Program, which selected two female coaches from each province and is through the Coaching Association of Canada. Hale, who participated in the 2019 Canada Winter Games, is no stranger to biathlon. Hale’s parents, Judy and Stephen, have been involved in the sport in P.E.I. for several years.
