Birmingham police are on the scene of a deadly shooting on the city’s east side. The shooting happened at 8:07 a.m. A juvenile girl is believed to have died in the gunfire. A second victim was transported to UAB Hospital.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said East Precinct officers were dispatched to the area after receiving multiple Shot Spotter alerts. When they arrived on the scene, they found an SUV had crashed into a utility pole. A young girl who was a passenger was pronounced dead on the scene. A second victim - an adult female - was transported by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.Neighbors reported a gunman standing in the street firing the weapon. Fitzgerald said at least 20 shots were fired.Ed Finton, who has lived in the neighborhood for 40 years, saw the ordeal unfold.
The young victim is Birmingham’s 129th homicide this year.
