They’re launching a Pet Memorial Program.The plaque which will be mounted on a silhouette structure of a dog, and permanently displayed along the fence in the leash-free area of Dunmoore Park.Julia shared Ray’s experience of losing his beloved six-year-old German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever Mix, Ricky.“Thank you to the City of Pickering for listening to my family’s story, and for bringing our vision to life,” said Hummel. “This means a lot to my family.

“Pickering’s community has an incredibly caring and generous spirit when it comes to animals,” said Lindsey Narraway, Supervisor, Animal Services. “I’m thrilled that staff were able to take meaningful action to support Julia’s idea. Our pets become our family, and losing one can be painful. This new program gives people the opportunity to memorialize this important relationship in an exceptional way.
