Nickel Belt MPP has reintroduced bill to bring assumed organ donor consent to Ontario
Born with Alport Syndrome, a genetic disease that damages the kidneys, Ryan ended up with renal failure in his late 20s. He started dialysis in March 2020, right at the beginning of the pandemic.
Still, the transplant has meant he and his wife have been able to move on with their lives, with Ryan being able to return to work, and the couple having their first baby two months ago. Mayor Paul Lefebvre read a proclamation, declaring April Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Month in Greater Sudbury, and raising a flag at Tom Davies Square.
It plans to hold an awareness event at Dairy Queen locations in Greater Sudbury later this year, and continues with its yearly press conference to raise awareness of the topic. “Sadly, every three days, one person will die because there isn’t enough organs to meet the need. By registering your consent to donate, you have the power to save or improve someone’s life.”She said she recently introduced a private member’s bill — for the seventh time — to bring assumed organ donor consent to Ontario.
