PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Mohd Ariffin Nazri Mohd Zakaria ended the year on a good note when he won the boys’ singles title in the Yap Brothers Badminton Junior Championship.
The 18-year-old received a bye in the first round before defeating Chai Yao Wei 30-19 in the second round to advance to the quarter-finals to overcome Mirza Nazran Mohd Sam 30-22 at the Bandar Maharani Badminton Centre in Muar, Johor. Ariffin went on to outplay Edmund Tee 21-9, 21-14 in the semi-finals to book a spot in the final, where he defeated Wee Yee Hern 21-13, 21-12 to emerge victorious.
Ariffin was pleased with his achievement but believes that he has to improve on a few aspects to be more successful.“Even though I won the singles’ title, I still need to work on my speed and power which directly influence my reaction on court,” he explained.
