To celebrate DoctorStrangeInTheMultiverseOfMadness' home release, we chat with Xochitl Gomez about America Chavez's journey thus far, and her hopes for the future of the MCU:
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a big adventure for the MCU's famed sorcerer, and it also introduced a new heroine to the franchise with the debut of America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez. In Multiverse of Madness, which has just been released on 4k, Blu-ray, and DVD, America Chavez finds herself on the run from Wanda Maximoff , who is determined to get hold of America's powers to travel from one universe to another.
Xochitl Gomez: I've been doing martial arts since I was 12, so now I’m halfway to my black belt, and I do straight sword and bow staff. For the preparation of this role, I did stunt training and kickboxing training for like a month straight, working for a couple hours every other day and then, when I got the role, then I just did a lot more stunt training and wire-work training and just running every day.
Speaking of that, The Illuminati sequence is kind of the one that has really jumped out to a lot of people as one of the most memorable. What can you share about reading about that in the script for the first time and filming that sequence on set? Xochitl Gomez: I mean, the main point that's different is that she's a younger generation superhero.
Now that we've been introduced to America Chavez through Multiverse of Madness, who is someone you would maybe want to see her meet and team-up with in the future in the MCU?
