Wranglers add to coaching staff Flames
Skapski, 28, joins the Wranglers after working with the Chilliwack Chiefs , Portland Winterhawks , Trinity Western University and Fraser Valley Thunderbirds as a goaltending coach and scout. He will work closely with the Flames’ director of goaltending, Jordan Sigalet, and Flames goaltending coach Jason LaBarbera.
Skapski was selected by the New York Rangers in the sixth round of the 2013 NHL Draft. He played in two NHL games, winning both, and picked up a shutout in the process. He last played during the 2018-19 season with Zvolen HKm in Slovakia.Article content Johnston, a 29-year-old Calgary native, has spent the last two seasons as the video coach and assistant coach with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL.
A veteran WHL defenceman who played 253 games from 2007-08-2012-13 with the Portland Winterhawks and Lethbridge Hurricanes, Johnston ended his playing days following the 2017-18 campaign after five seasons in the ECHL. He skated in 198 games during his ECHL career. The Wranglers will begin their 2022-23 regular season by hosting a two-game set against the Coachella Valley Firebirds — the Seattle Kraken’s AHL affiliate — at the Saddledome on Sunday, Oct. 16 and Oct. 17 .
