It was a rough start for the Canadian team skipped by Brad Gushue, but the home side bounced back to beat Italy in the evening.

“That was awful,” he said. “We haven’t had our butts kicked like that in a long time. It was a little bit of everything. A disappointing start to the week, but hopefully this will light a fire under us.”: After delivering to finally score two in the seventh end against the Swiss, Gushue bowed to the crowd, thanking the fans for their support. The crowd burst into spontaneous chants of “Go Canada Go” and “Go Gushue Go” earlier in the seventh, trying to push the team to victory.

It’s a full-team effort for Switzerland’s Yannick Schwarz, Benoit Schwarz, Pablo Lachat and Sven Michel to get this stone into the rings in the afternoon match against Canada.: Turkiye made its debut at the world championships Saturday, but not without controversy. While all 13 teams were supposed to be introduced for the opening ceremonies early Saturday afternoon, the Turks, led by skip Ugurcan Karagoz, were nowhere to be seen. There was no immediate explanation for their absence.

“We felt really comfortable, especially when we got the hammer ,” Edin said. “And, with the ice as good as it was, we kind of knew that, if we played at the level we do, then it’s a matter of time.”
