The 2022 FIFA World Cup dream final is set with Lionel Messi going after his first title with Argentina, while France looks to repeat.
Messi has carried Argentina since making his debut with the national team nearly 20 years ago. He single-handily got them to the World Cup final in Brazil and didn’t have enough talent around him four years ago in Russia.
“We’re going to try and counter Messi’s threat and stop him from influencing the game,” Deschamps said. “Of course, they are going to try and stop the influence of some of my players in the game. This Argentina side is different to the side we played four years ago.” France has made it to the final without star striker and recent Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, who was injured prior to the tournament. Midfielders Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, centre back Presnel Kimpembe and defender Lucas Hernandez are also hurt.Article content“Dayot will be back for the final,” Deschamps said. “Since Saturday, he hasn’t been very well for about three days. He got back to training a little bit night. He’s had a fever, but he’s starting to regain his strength.
