Every time they embark on a new mission, often in capsules just big enough to fit themselves and their equipment, they push themselves to the limit both physically and psychologically. “Isolation and confinement is like being alone in a cramped space, and that feeling worsens over time,” says Bill Paloski, Ph.D., director of the Human Research Program at NASA.
