In a new issue of The Flash, Animal Man's daughter Maxine just used her amazing, animal-based powers to show up Wonder Woman and her Lasso of Truth.

Comic fans know about Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth, but a surprising DC Comics character just demonstrated she can show it up. In The Flash #779, Maxine Baker, the daughter of Buddy Baker AKA Animal Man, shows a novel use for her animal-based powers, including the ability to detect lies. The issue, part three of “Vengeance is Mine,” is on sale now in print and digital.

Animal Man is one of the most unique heroes in the DC Universe. First appearing in 1965’s Strange Adventures #180, created by the legendary Carmine Infantino. After exposure to an alien substance, Buddy Baker developed the ability to mimic the abilities of any animal in his vicinity; for example, if Animal Man needs to fly, all he needs is for a bird to be nearby. Over the years, it was revealed that Animal Man’s powers come from the Red, an animal-based counterpart to Swamp Thing’s the Green.

Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth is one of the most powerful weapons in her arsenal, but Maxine Baker used her amazing powers to one up the Lasso. Maxine’s ability to detect lies on smell alone makes her extremely powerful, and hard to lie to as well. While Maxine will not wrangle a confession out of a villain like Wonder Woman can with her lasso, she can still sense when someone is being truthful.

With Maxine Baker now drawn into the fight, it is only a matter of time before her more famous father, Animal Man, makes an appearance. No doubt he will be proud of his daughter, who used her powers to one up Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth. .item-num::after { content: '/ '; } Share Share Tweet Email 0 Comment DC Announces New Asian American Hero For AAPI Heritage Month Related Topics About The Author Shaun Corley Shaun Corley is a pop culture enthusiast living in the Pacific Northwest.
