energepic.com/PexelsA woman who was suspected of drunk driving led police on a brief foot chase, and even bit an officer, in Langford on Friday.
The arrest occurred shortly after midnight, after RCMP were told that a woman was seen consuming a “large quantity of liquor” before entering a 2008 Hyundai Accent near the intersection of Merchant Way and Kelly Road.“When officers advised the suspect that she was being investigated for impaired driving, she became belligerent and ran away,” said RCMP in a release late Friday evening.
A brief foot chase ensued before police caught up with the driver. The woman then struggled with officers, including biting one Mountie’s arm, before she was arrested for impaired driving, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. The 24-year-old suspect is now facing four charges, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, refusing to provide a breath sample, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.Sign up for the CHEK Now daily email newsletter to get breaking news and the day's top stories sent to your email.She appeared in court on Friday and was released until her next court appearance.
“The West Shore RCMP officer received minor injuries in this incident and is expected to fully recover,” said police.
